Good afternoon. I hope you’re making this a great week.
I’m happy to share that our roof replacement has sufficient funds to begin in the spring. Thank you to everyone who gave to support our capital campaign. We’re not all the way there yet but we’re good to start. Anyways, as a result, we need to get approval from our members to okay this as part of our budget. Please see details below. I’m starting a new series of thoughts today, on reasons for us to have hope in 2021. Thanks also for the positive feedback on my previous set on thoughts on being resolved. I’m glad to know someone is actually reading what I’m sharing! YOUR ACTION REQUIRED: APPROVAL TO REPLACE ROOF As previously announced, GBC's 60 year old roof is at the end of life and requires replacement this spring as soon as weather is favourable. We are pleased to report that sufficient funds have been raised within the building fund to allow the project to proceed! GBC's constitution requires that a special meeting of members be held to approve any capital expenditure that exceeds 10% of the prior year's offerings. A special meeting is being convened to approve this expenditure on February 8 in order to move this project along. Rather than call the congregation together for this very straightforward issue, we are requesting that members appoint Dan Chapman, member of the Finance Committee, as their proxy to cast their vote to approve this matter. If you are a GBC member and agree to cast your vote by proxy, would you kindly respond to this email and simply state "I appoint Dan Chapman as my proxy with respect to the roof replacement project". If you have any questions about the project or this request, please let me know and we'd be happy to discuss this with you. . Join us on Sunday! Join us on our livestream on Sunday. Gord Martin from Vision Ministries will be speaking as part of our series “I AM: Jesus in his own words”. This Sunday he’ll be looking at Jesus statement: “I AM the gate.” As a reminder, our services are now livestreamed only in respect to the province’s current lockdown order. Please tune in either on Facebook Live or through our website www.guelphbiblechapel.ca or now on our YouTube channel! I hope to ‘see’ you on Sunday! Thought for the day: Some Reasons to Have Hope in 2021 I shared the ideas I’m going to share with you over the next couple of weeks with the youth group the first week of January. I started with one of my favorite clips from the Lord of The Rings movies where a young boy who is being pressed into battle says to the heroic Aragorn: “They say it is hopeless”. He replies: “there is always hope!” Is there hope for 2021? There is always hope! It’s a critical question, particularly as we fully enter into this new year. We live in a broken world, a truth that 2020 reminded us of often. Just about everyone had their lives shook up in some way. I suspect we all struggled with hopelessness at various points of the pandemic. I know I did. Probably some of you are struggling with this right now because so many ae enduring challenges we’ve never faced before. That’s why the question, “Is there hope?” is so important for 2021. As we face the challenges and joys of 2021, I’m going to share with you over the next few weeks some unshakable truths that anchor our hope as Christians. This year, no matter what you are facing, remind yourself and any who will listen of the truth we read in 1 Peter 1- In his great mercy God has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. There is always hope! In His grip, Pastor Chris
