"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."
This brings us to Paul’s second point to Timothy- correctly handle the word of truth. God has given us the text book for the course of life, the Bible. Yes it tells us the great story of God’s love, purpose and plan for us but it also gives us instruction on how to live as He’d have us. So it’s our job to be students of it. We should be like the Bereans in Acts 17 who examined the Scriptures to ensure what they were hearing was correct (Acts 17:11). So that means finding a study, reading, being led by the Holy Spirit and ultimately learning. For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any two-edged sword it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart (Heb.4:12). When you engage with if fully it can’t help but transform you!
So this fall, be an active learner, not passive, it’s good for your spiritual health and is pleasing to the Great Teacher. If you enjoy being a student, super, stick with it. But if you’re like most (me included!) and you struggle with the day-in and day-out grind, reconnect, learn and then watch yourself grow. It’s time to go back to school!
