We wrap up the Summer in the Psalms series today. There is one last psalm that I wanted to share with you. This isn’t the one that I originally chose as I was looking at them over the course of the summer but as we get into it I hope you’ll see why I chose this one. What we have seen is that psalms are written by a number of authors over hundreds of years. David wrote the most of them and I think every one that we looked at this summer has been written by David. They are broad but not random -carefully crafted attempts to communicate with God though prayer, though songs, and through reflections.
Many Psalms are prayers, I mean we have ones that are songs, but many Psalms are prayers. And it’s very useful in times we don’t know what to pray. Often times, as I journey with people that are going through difficult times and they say, “Chris, I don’t know what to say, I don’t know what to pray, I don’t know how to talk to God”, I say, “Go to the Psalms”, and I point them in the directions of certain ones that are useful and helpful. But when we don’t want to pray or we’re struggling with the discipline of praying, the Psalms can be very, very helpful. The Psalm that we are going to look at today is Psalm 54.
